History on the Sidewalk

The "Great Flood of 2014" has been well documented. The highway flowed with water like the Mississippi. Our street and many in our neighborhood flooded, trapping cars (and destroying them if driven through) and most of the neighborhood suffered basement flooding. We came out ok. Seven inches of water and the stuff we had to pitch hadn't seen life outside its box in quite some time. Others weren't so lucky. My folks, for instance. They had over two feet of water in their basement, taking with it many memories of lifetimes past. Photos, furniture, trophies, hockey cards...not to mention exercise equipment and appliances just to name a few. My brother and I take a lot of the responsibility as a majority of this stuff was ours from throughout the years. Clothes, old yearbooks, posters, etc. that we've been meaning to pick up (...for years). We are reminding ourselves that it is just "stuff," and it can't totally wash away the time.

It's almost as if you're getting a glimpse into every households history by just walking down the sidewalk...
